I'm sorry everyone. I'm sorry that my inner 13 year old cali girl side of me just came out... I'm just going to stop here.
So my funny dyslexic moment of the month has to go to when I was at our career fair. So I was trying to be responsible and cool by looking at all the companies coming to BYU that were looking for mechanical engineers. I saw who was coming and would go to their website to see what they do. I did it for all the companies except one, NASA. Being from Houston, TX and having gone to the NASA center in Houston several times, movies and my grandpa working for them, I felt like I had a pretty good understanding on what they did. So I went to NASA's recruiting table. I was talking to their recruiter for a little bit and I told him that my grandpa used to work for them and built rocket ships in the 80s. The man looked at me and said. "We aren't NASA, We're NSA." We had a good laugh. I definitely left my best impression. The sad thing though, was that after talking to him for about 10 minutes, I felt that I left a better impression with him than the other recruiters.
BYU has a great TA program, if you can call it that. For most of my classes TA's hold weekly or at least pre-test reviews for my classes. I have done a pretty good job of attending these reviews. One thing I learned about preparing for tests in Feburary was when I was gettting ready for my statics test. I was sitting in a review and I realized I wasn't getting anything out of it. Normally in this situation I do two things: 1) sit through the rest of it and play on my phone or 2) leave and go do something else. But what I did this time was something different. I left, found a table, and did practice problems. I realized I had learned the material but I needed to become more comfortable with what I learned. By assessing my own needs, I was able to do what was best for me in preparing for my test. Of course, I haven't abandond these reviews. Now before I go, I do an honest assestment of what I need to do to prepare. As long as my assestments don't lead me to do nothing, I have seen an improvement in my test scores.
I hope that can help someone and get there mind going..
